CFP: AMS 2025 PSG Session

The Pedagogy Study Group seeks proposals for a multi-format session at the next AMS-SMT Joint Annual Meeting 6–9 November 2025 in Minneapolis. We invite proposals in all areas of pedagogy. Possible themes include but are not limited to:

  • belonging, care, or kindness pedagogy.
  • collaborative inter/transdisciplinary teaching.
  • demonstrations on teaching with new technologies.
  • designing and revising curriculums.
  • how to prepare for difficult discussions with sensitive content.
  • how to design inclusive class activities.
  • how to prepare accessible assessments.
  • how to prepare professional portfolios.
  • teaching entrepreneurship in the music history class.
  • teaching music history beyond the college and university class.
  • teaching beyond North America.

Examples of formats invited for this session include but are not limited to 1) formal papers; 2) demonstrations such as using live performance in the musicology classroom; 3) panel discussion-sessions; and 4) lightning talks. Presentations may be proposed by an individual or group and may be as brief as 20-30 minutes or as long as two hours.

We particularly encourage proposals that emphasize highly interactive approaches and hands-on practice; creative, fun, even whimsical formats; active, engaging, problem-based approaches; or proposals that result in participants coming away with a technique or activity they can use in class. We are open to other format ideas. Please reach out with any questions.

Proposals should identify the participants, and include their email addresses and a 100-word bio along with an outline of the intellectual content of the session including learning outcomes for participants, a description of the session, and the durations of the activities. The Pedagogy Study Group encourages panel organizers to bring together panelists with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Proposals are not restricted to Pedagogy Study Group members; all are welcome to submit.

Please send a proposal of no more than 500 words to Kristy Swift (swiftak -at- ucmail.uc.edu) and Matteo Magarotto (mxm193267 -at- miami.edu) by 11:59 PM EST on Friday, 7 March 2025. Selected participants will be notified during the week of 12 March 2025 and selected proposals will then be submitted to the AMS for final review.
